Upcoming Seminar in Surrey, UK

On the 7th of February, the English Martial Arts Academy will be holding a one day event in Haslemere, Surrey. On offer will be English backsword, Italian longsword and Bartitsu. The bartitsu class will focus on the key principles of empty hand and possibly stick, and is designed for beginners and those trained in the martial arts.
The Holmes fans amongst you will know that Conan Doyle settled for a time in this area, and that he is buried just down the road in Minstead, whilst his wife and son are buried in nearby Hindhead Greyshott (Thanks Ian!).
If you would like to know more then leave a comment below, and please mention bartitsu.org when booking.

How very frustrating! I live in Hindhead myself and have been wanting to practice Bartisu for ages but am going to be back at university late January. What a pain!

That is bad luck! Which University? There may be a club close by.

Hi, I’m at Anglia Ruskin in Cambridge. I’ve been boxing for the last couple of years and have done some Dragon (outside of Cambridge) and Wing Chun Kung Fu (in Cambridge).

I’m afraid I don’t know anywhere in Cambridge, but I am hoping to firm up a location in Farnborough this week. That might be good for you if you come back outside term time.

Sorry for the late reply, I plan to be living semi-permanently as of May, so that sounds pretty great. May I ask, do your martial arts classes focus on the martial arts itself, or more on fitness, or a mixture of both?
Oh, and thought I should add Doyle’s wife and son are technically buried in Grayshott, just down the road from Hindhead.

Hi Ian,
My apologies for the late reply as well! I’ll have classes starting at the end of February in Farnborough. Hopefully you’ll be able to come along.
Thanks for the correction about Greyshott. I should know that, it’s where my god-daughter was christened

Hello,
I live in Sharpthorne in West Sussex and was wondering if you know of anywhere locally that does Bartitsu classes?
Please can you email me a response?
Many thanks,
Matthew

HI,
I’m really very interested in Bartitsu, but am not a martial artist – would I still be able to attend the Haslemere event (i live in woking)?
Great website, I look forward to learning!

AARGH! I spotted this seminar just a few days late. What’s the best way to keep informed of upcoming events in the South East?
By Mark, Saturday, 13th February 2010 @ 7:52 pm
Like an earlier poster, I’m also in Sussex. Any more seminars likely in this vicinity?

Hi Mark,
sorry you missed the seminar. The best way is simply to keep track of posts on the main page of this site, or (even better if you have a real interest in Bartitsu) to join the Bartitsu Forum email list at http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/Bartitsu_Forum/ . It’s a very active and positive group and almost all news of seminars, etc. passes through there.
Cheers,
Tony
